On September 11 CosmoCom EMEA and a select number of telecom and service provider business partners from around Europe put on their sailing caps, kissed the land goodbye and set sail for the inaugural CosmoCom EMEA Sailing challenge. The event took place at the Naarden Yachting Center in the Netherlands where 40 enthusiastic sailors from all experience-levels took to 10 boats to test their skill on the open seas in a friendly competition.

The event was kicked off with CosmoCom executives presenting the state of the business followed by an in-depth discussion of the CosmoCall Universe product roadmap and future plans. After that, everyone received instruction on the basics of sailing technique and regatta rules to ensure it was not only a fun day, but a safe one as well.

With everyone prepped for the challenge ahead, the gathering was divided into groups of four and set upon their vessels as working crew with an experienced captain at the helm. The teams competed against each other on the waters of the Dutch Gooimeer in Naarden, near CosmoCom's EMEA headquarters and while everyone worked hard in the spirit of teamwork - and while it was a close finish among our European Telecom Operators we did have a couple of teams take first prize for their yacht categories.

In the 30 foot yacht category, first place went to the team comprised of:

  • Eric Slangen - Senior Product Manager Contact Center On Line, KPN, the Netherlands
  • Paul Lowell - Director TopSpin Partners and CosmoCom Board member
  • Dietmar Geiler - Vice President of Marketing T-Systems, Germany -- responsible for T-Systems products and services including Business VoIP Agent (CCOD service from T-Systems)

A step up in size, in the 32 foot category, the winning team was:

  • Wolfhart Krischke - Managing Director DACH region CosmoCom
  • Mark Sparreboom - Manager Versatel, the Netherlands
  • Martin Visser, Microsoft EMEA, responsible for Contact Center Framework EMEA

The day wrapped up with a fantastic barbeque where everyone was able to enjoy some good food, build new relationships and recount the day's experiences. Judging by the overwhelming enthusiasm for the event, CosmoCom is planning to organize similar events every year from now on.

Finally, we want to offer special thanks to Michiel van Dis, CEO of Mtel in the Netherlands, for taking on the role of "Chief Racing Officer" for the day.

TATA INDICOM PROMOTES INSTACC HOSTED OFFERING

 BITS & PIECES: SOME VOIP FACTOIDS

Phone lines reach 4 billion worldwide
USA Today reported that a September U.N. International Telecommunications Union report estimates that telephone service has quadrupled in the last 10 years to 4 billion lines globally, including 1.27 billion fixed lines and 2.68 billion mobile accounts. The report also estimates that 61% of the world's mobile customers reside in developing countries.

WHO'S TALKING? RECENT INK

At the end of August, Communications Solutions featured excerpts from editor-in-chief, Rich Tehrani's blog where he talks about his conversation with CosmoCom EVP, Steve Kowarsky. In the Q&A style "interview" Rich gets asks Steve about a whole host of topics including the state of the market (both US and global), the evolution of communications, CosmoCom's initiatives and what pains our technology solves and "What's next for communications." VoIP On the Brink of Change
The September 12th issue of New Telephony features an article by Tara Seals called "ITExpo: Showcasing VoIP On the Brink of Change" focused on some of the innovation at the recent IT Expo in Los Angeles that CosmoCom exhibited at. In the opening paragraph she states "...to gauge by the news coming out of the show the predictions of many an analyst firm are correct: We are on the brink of upheaval." As she continues on, her first point is how unified communications and convergence are at the top of peoples minds and mentions CosmoCom's availability to talk about "Consolidation 2.0" as a supporting point. NEW MEMBERS OF THE COSMOCOM FAMILY

CosmoCom Americas

Jonathon Blair, is the latest addition to the CosmoCom Americas sales organization, joining us as Regional Sales Director for the West Coast. Jonathon brings a proven track record of technology and call center industry sales in companies like Autonomy etalk as District Sales Manager, Van Velzer-Thompson Consulting, Aspect Communications where he was a major accounts sales executive, and CA International.

Yuriy Aleksandrov has been part of the QA department at HQ and has recently joined us as a full-time QA Engineer. Yuriy has already proven himself to be a valuable addition to the QA team. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Brooklyn College.

CosmoCom Israel

Dor Alaon has joined the CosmoCom Israel R&D group to lead the efforts of further automating the Quality Assurance processes. He has 7 years experience in software development and also with managing software teams. He has vast experience with server side programming and the development of verification software. He holds a Computer Science degree from Tel Aviv Academic Collage.

2007 CosmoCom Executive Barbeque

While the Summer season may have "officially" ended on Labor Day weekend a couple of weeks ago,  the Northeast United States has continued to experience beautiful, warm Summer weather. And what better thing to do on a warm Summer evening than barbeque outdoors with friends and family? There is one thing...barbeque outdoors with friends and family while your executives do the cooking and serving.

That is exactly what we all did at this much anticipated annual event at HQ. Once again the entire executive team fired up the grills, donned the white aprons and worked their BBQ magic while resident DJ Steve Dellutri pumped out tunes.

Ari and his team outdid themselves and pleased the masses with mouth-watering "Shrimp on the Barbie", lip-smacking BBQ chicken,  abundant burgers and hot dogs and, of course, Ari Sonesh's incredible skirt steak that was seasoned, cooked to perfection and in demand.

In addition to the grilled goodies, there were plenty of salads and other goodies, not the least of which were Kathy Salt's amazing Taco Salad and Gorgonzola Salad.

There was plenty of food and drink and camaraderie and nobody went home hungry. In fact, the next day, Natan Stein and some of his sous chefs did a command performance during the lunch hours grilling up the leftovers for a "very" willing audience.

A great day was enjoyed by all!
